Invaluable Mobile Insurance Plan Reviews

By Clarissa Mulawellson

When buying a mobile phone the owner should note down the serial number. If the device is lost, the company providing the air time can use this number to ensure that any calls are blocked. The serial number can be found on the receipt given for the purchase. Often this number is needed if a mobile phone insurance claim is to be made.

It is never a good idea to make calls when in a vulnerable situation walking out of doors. It can be difficult to pay attention to what people are doing on the street and this makes it easy for anyone to snatch the phone. The best idea if making a call is to find a quiet place to stop and complete the call.

When considering the policy, it is advisable to read the terms and conditions carefully to see what is insured and what events may not be covered. Normally, the policy will cover a number of situations including loss or theft and it is important to check the events that can give rise to a claim.

The policy may also cover accidental damage, water damage, electrical or mechanical breakdown or in some cases unauthorized calls made up to a certain maximum amount. It is also best to check the geographical scope of the cover to ensure that the policy will continue to apply during overseas trips.

It is advisable to be prepared for the worst by checking the procedure in case a claim needs to be made. It is always good to contact the police as soon as possible if the mobile is stolen or if malicious damage is involved. The police record the details of the incident and give it a reference number which may be useful when contacting the insurer.

After reporting the incident to the police, the owner should inform other interested parties. The loss can be reported to the company providing the air time on the phone. Within a certain length of time specified in the terms and conditions of the insurance contract it should be reported to the insurer.

The next step in the process is to submit a claim form to the insurer. This should be sent to the company with supporting documents such as proof of ownership. Where there is an excess amount on the policy this is always payable by the owner.

Within a specified amount of time the mobile phone insurance company will assess the claim. The company informs the owner if the claim has been successful and if they are sending a replacement the owner should ensure that this goes to the correct address.
