Read About VoIP And Your Telephone

By Miguel Rivera

The telephone that has sat on your desk or table for as long as you can remember is part of an analog system. The world has now gone digital so the time has come to change your telephone too. VoIP means using your existing computer's broadband internet connection to make phone calls. Nothing could be simpler.

Whether you have a business or just want a better telephone system at home, internet telephony, to give it another name, can offer you a solution. The facilities have improved tremendously over the last 5 to 10 years. Now there is a wide range of packages available and a wide range of service providers too.

Now you can actually use your existing instrument with an adapter connecting it via your existing computer/router and simply dial any telephone number in the world. You do need a good internet connection however as it is bandwidth that makes things happen and happen as they should. A slow connection will not give you the desired results.

Perhaps the most important thing is cost. By some estimates you can save nearly half of your monthly phone bill by switching to VoIP. Since you are already paying for your broadband cable of DSL connection you will not have to pay for a separate phone line.

Many of you will have used Skype at some time. That too is VoIP. Normally, however, that has entailed using a microphone and talking to someone using another computer, not just picking up the nearest handset and dialing any number anywhere.

Customer service is important. In fact that may be why some of these smaller VoIP companies thrive. They get such rave reviews online for their friendly service. To begin with there were a few problems but most of these have been ironed out. Perhaps for some people the lack of directories and yellow pages is an inconvenience, but then the internet is there after all.

VoIP is a cheap and effective way to make phone calls. It is easy to install and operate. The changeover will be completed almost overnight.
