Discovering What Makes Your IPhone Great: Advice For Users

By Bryan Santos

So you've gotten a new iPhone. You may not think you want to know everything the phone does, but once you find out some of the great things that this phone can do, you will not know how you got along without it! Keep reading for some wonderful tricks for the iPhone.

The iPhone uses diction. This helps because you don't have to type. You can enable this by tapping the microphone button on your phone and talking into it. When you are done, hit the stop button and it automatically types what you say. You can also use this feature to update your status on social networking sites.

Many people think that when looking for a phone number on the Internet while on their iPhone, that they have to copy the number down; this is not true at all. All you need to do is tap on the phone number once you have found it, and your iPhone will dial it for you.

Use rice to help your wet iPhone. If you have found that your phone has gotten water all over it, the best solution is to set it in a bag full of rice. Rice will draw out the water and absorb it, hopefully allowing water to leave your phone in a way that you can still use it.

A great tip if you're new to using an iphone is to take avantage of its GPS features. Say your car broke down in the middle of nowhere and you need a tow truck to come give you a lift. You can use your iphone to pinpoint where you are.

If you're sending messages to friends who don't use iPhones themselves, remember that longer messages will get broken into 160-character texts. You can keep an eye on your messages' length by adding a character counter to iMessage. Just open the Settings menu and go to "character count" under "messages." With the counter enabled, you'll never have to worry about a message getting broken at an unfortunate point again!

Would you like a quick and efficient way to delete emails on your iPhone? It is simple with this quick technique. Just swipe across an email with your finger, and you can delete it. If it is a Gmail account, you can adjust the settings so this swipe archives the message instead of deleting it.

For those who interact often on social networking sites, the iPhone makes it easy to stay up to speed with them. It is easy to comment, download photos and connect with your friends. Many college students find having an iPhone is a convenient way to stay connected to the internet away from home.

Save photos you like easily in Safari. If you see an image you want to keep, just press and hold on the photo on the website page. Your iPhone will give you the option of saving a copy of the image. This save is offline so you can use it for personal use through email or anything else.

Take screenshots of websites or apps that you want to have later. Just tap the Sleep button while you are holding down the Home button. Doing so creates a screenshot of whatever you are currently viewing so that you can retrieve it from your Camera Roll later on in the day or week.

You can use an application on the iphone that shows you your pace during your run workouts. You can keep track of your pace with this application and determine if you are making any real progress or not. Try this application out and let it push you to get the most out of your workouts.

While bluetooth is a useful addition for smart phones, it can be a power waster. If the phone's bluetooth settings are left active, the phone will constantly search for signals that are within range and use power in the process. To prevent this, disable the bluetooth option in the setting's menu.

There may be times when you try to send an email on your iPhone and then something goes wrong with your network connection. You may think that the message is gone, but it isn't. There is a temporary outgoing folder that is created, and it will contain the message. You can find it on the main screen of your sending account. This folder and message will disappear once your network is back on, and you send the message.

It should be a bit easier for you to use your new iphone device now. Just keep in mind that it does take a little time to get used to the feel of the phone. But in time you can master the different applications, and ways to use the phone. Then you can just worry about enjoying yourself with this highly advance piece of technology.
